1 UP Construction FAQ

We know that undertaking a building and construction project in your home, such as a home extension, renovation or garage conversion, is a major undertaking. You’re investing your hard-earned time and money in a project that will improve your day-to-day living, as well as add value to your property.

It’s vital that when researching the building contractors you want to employ to carry out the construction, you gather as much information as possible, so you’re fully aware of the facts before you make any decisions.

We pride ourselves on being local trusted partners who are fully transparent in our pricing, procedures, regulations, and operations. We will never leave you with nasty surprises.

If you’re looking for more specific building and construction service FAQs, you can find them over on Garage Conversion FAQs, Home Extension FAQs, Loft Conversion FAQs, Home Renovation FAQs, and Roofing FAQs.

Whether you require planning permission depends on the type of construction project it is, and there is no catch all yes or no answer.

For a loft conversion, it is very unlikely planning permission will be required, however, we would still recommend getting drawings made and submitting these to the building control overseeing the job, to iron out any queries before the job starts and eliminate any added costs.

However, when it comes to home extensions and conservatory building projects, there is a very broad set of circumstances which will determine whether planning permission is required. Currently, you are allowed to build extensions up to 4m away from the original rear wall of the property, providing it does not exceed 50% of the land surrounding the property.

There are exemptions to these home extension planning rules, such as conservation areas, and other structures being included in the calculation of the percentage of land used and others.

We treat each building and construction job individually, and our building planners and designers will be able to advise you accurately on all planning permission queries.

At 1UP Construction We have a brilliant team of professional in-house builders

You will be seeing the same faces day in and day out throughout your construction project. This is great for both you and us as it means you get to build a good working relationship and you know who to expect each morning.

We do use specific subcontractors when the project calls for it. We use trusted subcontractors for the likes of electrical works and gas works. This is due to having 3-4 days work on a 6-week project for an electrician, so it wouldn’t be beneficial to employ an electrician currently.

All subcontractors are vetted by us to ensure they have all the relevant qualifications and insurance to carry out their jobs.

It is difficult to put a definitive timeframe on a building job before we have seen it. Every peoject is unique and every job has its different hurdles to get over.

Once we have seen the scope of the project, we will be able to provide you with an estimated completion time.

What we can guarantee, is that we always do our best to get the jobs done as quickly as we possibly can.

We understand the disruption a building project can cause, so we do everything we possibly can to keep that to a minimum.

At 1UP Construction, we have full public liability insurance in place which covers us for £2,000,000 worth of damages.

Delivering our projects on budget to our customers is something we feel very strongly about.

We’ve all heard the scare stories about quotes who came in £5,000 cheaper, and then at the end of the job deliver an invoice in for £10,000 more than quoted.

We don’t agree with that ethic.

to ensure correct quoting first time, we will go through the project plans twice. We will discuss your exact specifications with you, so when we give you a quote, you know what you’re paying.

If you fancy adding some work while we are there, then these will be quoted before carrying out the additional work, so the cost will always be transparent.

Generally speaking, you do not need to move out your home while construction is underway.

Building can be a messy business unfortunately. We have strict policies in place to ensure mess is kept to a minimum.

All flooring which will be affected will be covered using corrugated plastic covers or carpet roll before any work is carried out.

This will then remain down throughout the build and will not be removed until the last sweep has been completed.

At the end of each working day, we will make sure your home is left clean and safe.

Go to our quotation page and get a direct quote for free. This is the best way to get the ball rolling on your building and construction project.
